STARS

STARS

Stars fall from grace

Leaving no trace of their glory days

Consumed by the fire in which they

Delighted as it ignited, went on the rampage

Then was extinguished

By the gutter press, vanity, delusion and darkness.

Stars light up the heavens,

Create marvellous spectacles

Opening our eyes and minds in our quest for knowledge.

Their brilliance touches the brilliant,

As we head on into the universe,

The void of unknowing, undoing all we thought we knew.

Lost in the sheer magnificence of Life as we try to fathom its creator,

Originator and source.

From bright diamonds shards of light dance against black velvet curtains

Twinkling in our dreams.

Oh bright star, guide us to the secret place of the soul!

Phaeton was but a name – he rode no chariot of fire through the night sky.

But you, star of wonder, can drop golden dust on our paths and lead us to the city

of Gold. We wait, starry eyed.

I pray, don’t leave us in the darkness.

ImageWell, I hope you like my composition about stars – such a great topic. I entered it for a local poetry competition but it didn’t win. But I had the joy of writing it. And that’s what poetry is about – total freedom to create. What a beautiful world, but oh, how we love to damage it with our vanity. And we’re all guilty. Peace.
